Its Hat Day

Richmond Indiana, Tomorrow Ohio

It's Saturday and we're in Richmond, Indiana.

Crossing the Mississippi River a few days back was real exciting. The ride is great fun, somewhat like a military campaign --- relentless  everyday. We get up, prep for the day, then its fun and games on the bike with the rest of the kids.

The other day we all did helmet decorations and all the kids we passed wanted to go with us. But we said, "No, you have to be at least 50 and have some level of lack of responsibility in your past to qualify."
So on we go east to Boston, this trip is highly recommended. In addition to being physical it is just as much mental. A fabulous experience with an outstanding group of people from all over the world.

The Mississippi

Over the mighty Mississippi river today now we are in Quincy, Illinois. Very windy all day, right on our face makes for a tough ride. But nothing compared to the folks who walked across the country. Great group of 23 riders really working together. Wonderful pace to see USA, and great fun and lots of chocolate shakes. Rolling east.

Ride Updates

We traveled from Indo, California to Blythe, California a few days ago. It was a long tough day, 110 plus degrees, but we all made it across the Mojave desert.

The next day Blythe, CA to  Wickenburg, Arizona. It was better road but still hot thru the Sonora  desert. Wickenberg is an old railroad town. It was quaint, lots of chocolate milk and V8 juice.

Along the way I had a flat tire, rear. Luckly the head mechanic, Rick, was close by and he helped. B-team of which I'm a member, about 13 of the 23 riders, is working on a pace line while riding to gain efficiency. We're gonna need to perfect this for Kansas, etc.

Today is my day off, I'm in Sedona, Arizona with friends. Red rocks, wild pig, etc.
All in all I'm doing well. I'm trying to get some paper donations while I'm riding, things are looking great.

Thanks for all the help,
Chet

First Day

The first day went well. Dip the  rear wheel in the Pacific Ocean and on to  Boston.
Now I'm in Riverside, California, there are lots of  homes etc built in the 50 and 60s.
It would be a dessert without the water from Colorado and the central valley - orchards  etc
You know you are on the right bicycle trip when the bike mechanic, a pharmacist from Texas named Rick who has ridden the tour for  12 years, says "I know  every dairy queen on the route between here and Boston."
You're also on the right tour when your bags are in the room and the AC is on when you arrive.
Also when the 4 British riders say, "we decided to come across the pond  to  see how the kids are doing."
Yesterday HOT and the next 3 days in the dessert HOT.
We're going thru areas below sea level.
I have 23 new best friends on this ride.
Today we go from Riverside to Indo,California.
Hope all well with everyone, and a belated Happy Mothers Day to all the moms and all their unsung    efforts to make the world  a better place.

For The Wounded Warrior Project

I am doing this ride in support of The Wounded Warrior Project. A foundation that helps and supplies psychological and physical support for our brave veterans.
With CrossRoads Cycling I will begin my journey across the country on May 12th 2012 in Los Angeles, California by dipping my rear wheel into the Pacific Ocean. I will then bike 3,415 miles to my final destination in Boston, Massachusetts arriving on June 27th 2012 where I will dip my front wheel into the Atlantic Ocean.
